Irene is shocked when Bree reports that Dana is missing and that Rose is investigating Bronte for fraud. Away from the Bay, Dana hides in the bush, with Chase steadily closing in on her. Bronte arrives to find the shipping container empty, and she’s not happy to realise their prisoner has escaped – especially as she knows too much.
John and Xander are in hot pursuit, and they know all is not well when they hear the fraudsters calling Dana’s name. John calls Rose to report that they’ve found her, while Xander runs into the quarry estate, determined to find his girlfriend before Bronte does.
As police sirens approach, Dana runs into Xander’s arms while John stops her captors from leaving by standing in front of their vehicle. The police have arrived, and when Bronte tries to escape on foot, Rose tackles her to the ground – noting that Bronte is moving pretty fast for someone who’s dying.
At the police station, Dana questions how Xander could have disbelieved her this whole time, while a smug Bronte gloats even under police escort that Dana’s loved ones all chose her side. Leah updates Irene that Dana is safe and Bronte has been arrested, and she heads straight to the station where she confronts her scammer.
When taken to task though, Bronte taunts her victim and brands Irene “a gullible old woman”. As she’s taken for processing, Irene is completely shattered.
Dana takes a hard line with Xander – telling him that she can’t be with him right now as he didn’t have her back. She does forgive Irene, though. Dana tells Irene that she’s a good person and she’ll need to forgive herself too.
Meanwhile, Kirby and Bree catch up post-surf. Kirby can tell her friend is missing her ex. Later, she clocks the chemistry between them when Remi asks Bree to join them for lunch, and she quickly forms a plan – she tells Theo that they’re going to get Remi and Bree back together.
They invite the two for a drink that night, and when their friends don’t turn up, Remi and Bree quickly realise the ploy – agreeing that they’ve been set up. But what are they going to do about it?
